Clayton L. Barber

STEAMBURG — Clayton L. Barber, 75, of Blood Road, Randolph, Town of Coldspring, passed away Monday, Dec. 30, 2019, at home with his family by his side.

He was born May 27, 1944, in the Town of Coldspring, the son of the late Walter and Frances (Morrison) Barber.

Clayton was a 1961 graduate of Randolph Central School and a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard, Clayton worked as a machine operator for SKF- MRC-TRW Bearings in Falconer and Jamestown, retiring in 2002. He had also worked for R&M Restaurant and the former Porter Dairy Farm, both in Randolph. Clayton has also served as sexton of the East Randolph Cemetery for many years. In his younger days, he worked for the former Work & Sylvas Gravel Products.

He attended the East Randolph United Methodist Church, was a life member of the Coldspring Fire Department, having served as president, secretary- treasurer and charter founder of the Thursday Morning Breakfast Club. Clayton, additionally served as a committeeman for Local Union 338 UAW.

Clayton’s family was very important to him and spending time with them was his favorite thing to do, he also enjoyed hunting and hobby farming.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Penny L. (Morgan) Barber, whom he married on July 9, 1966, in Salamanca, four sons: Thomas (Dee) Barber, Troy (Jill) Barber, Thad (Paula) Barber and Toby (Ronda) Barber, all of Randolph, a sister; Brenda See (the late Roy) of East Randolph; as well as 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents: three sisters; Elva Sherman, Alma Crossley and Beverly R. Schreckengost; two brothers: Frank and L. Thomas Barber; and two half-brothers; Pete and Judd Barber.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, Jan. 3, 2019, in the VanRensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church St., Randolph, where services will follow. Pastor John Barber, Clayton’s nephew will officiate. Inurnment-burial will be held in the East Randolph Cemetery.
