Joseph S. Morello

PORTLAND — Joseph S. Morello, 65, died peacefully, Sunday, Dec. 22, 2019, at the Veterans Medical Center in Buffalo, N.Y., after a brief illness.

Joe was born in Westfield, N.Y., a son to the late Andy and Edna Mae (Bane) Morello on Oct. 27, 1954.

After graduating from Brocton Central School, Joe attended Corning Community College, where he earned an associate’s degree in occupational studies. He had been enlisted with the U.S. Army as a motor vehicle repair man and utilities equipment repair until his honorable discharge in 1987.

Joe had been a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus, he was a skilled auto mechanic and had worked for Beckman and Everts Ford and LaPorte Chevrolet, both of Westfield, N.Y. In his spare time, he would diagnose and repair his friends vehicles. Repairing computers was a special hobby which he loved for the challenge.

He is survived by a son, Kyle (Erica) Markham of Westfield, N.Y.; two sisters: Sharon (Lynn) Pease of Avon, N.Y., and Susan (Richard) Shattuck of Falconer, N.Y.; one brother, Jim (Yvonne) Morello of Alabama; his grandsons: Miles and Mason; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Proctor; and two brothers: Dan and Robert Morello.

Family and friends are invited to join with Joe’s family for a celebration of life which will be held Saturday, Jan. 4, 2020, at the Nikel Plate Depot in Brocton, N.Y., at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, Joe requests memorial contributions be made in his honor to the American Diabetes Association, 2451 Crystal Drive, Suite 900, Arlington, VA 22202.

Funeral arrangements have been cared for by the MORSE Funeral Home, 51 Highland Ave. Brocton, NY 14716.

Private burial will be held in Portland Evergreen Cemetery.
