Gail R. Gustafson

Gail R. Gustafson, 88, of Stowe Street in Jamestown, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019, at home while surrounded by family.

Gail was born Feb. 6, 1931, in Jamestown. and was the son of the late Gerald T. and Gladys Bennett Gustafson.

He was a 1949 graduate of Jamestown High School and a 1954 graduate of the University of Cincinnati. Gail then served in the U.S. Army from 1955-57 and was discharged with the rank of first lieutenant.

He was employed by Jamestown Macadam and Jamestown Metal Products prior to retirement. He was also a member of First Presbyterian Church, Masonic Lodge and the American Legion.

Gail is survived by his wife, Shirley, whom he married in 1953; and his brother, Gerald B. (Alice) Gustafson of Fairfax, Va.

Also surviving are his five children: Jill (Mike) Davis of Cape San Blas, Fla., Garrett Gustafson of Belle Plaine, Kans., and Julie Cogliano, Robert (Judith) Gustafson and David (Colleen) Gustafson, all of Jamestown; six grandchildren: Gary (Cassandra) Gustafson of Brocton, Katie (Corey) Butler of Jamestown, Lucas Gustafson and Alexandria Gustafson of West Lebanon, N.H., Lacey Gustafson of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and Justin Gustafson of Buffalo, NY; and three great-grandchildren: Grant, Drew and Zoe.

A private family service will be held, with the Rev. Robert J. Hagel officiating. Visitation will not be observed.

When my “Final Order” comes to move on, I think about family and friends I met while here.

I hope they will remember good deeds done and the stories told.

My heart is sad as I continue on, with memories of a life’s journey. (Amen)
