Stephen C. Taylor

Stephen C. Taylor, 72, of 154 Connecticut Ave., Jamestown, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, Nov. 15, 2019, at UPMC Chautauqua.

A lifelong area resident, he was born in Jamestown on Jan. 18, 1947, and was a son of the late William Aaron and Virginia Cornell Taylor.

Steve was a graduate of Jamestown High School and attended Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa. He was also a chief petty officer in the U.S. Navy, actively serving from 1968-70 followed by 24 years in the Naval Reserves.

For more than 40 years, he was employed as a salesman by Montgomery Truss & Panel in Grove City, Pa., retiring in April of 2016. He proudly knew all of the roads on the east coast by heart, and traveled millions of miles over the course of his career.

Steve was also a member of many local organizations and clubs including the Falconer Rotary, Sportsmen’s Club, Lakewood Rod & Gun, Shriners, Masons and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a past president of the Boy Scouts’ Allegheny Highlands Council.

As a Jamestown native his entire life, he was a loving neighbor and friend to many in the area. On a snowy day he happily woke up before dawn to clear snow off his surrounding neighbors’ driveways. He was very generous and loved to share meals with loved ones.

His favorite places to visit were Myrtle Beach, Allegany State Park and his family’s camp outside of Frewsburg, N.Y., lovingly referred to as Big Pine.

Surviving are his two children: Aaron (Courtney) Taylor of Mayville, N.Y., and Sarah (Jason) Lincoln of Boonsboro, Md.; six grandchildren: Ethan, Isaac, and Amelia Taylor, and Madeline, Caleb, and Gabriella Lincoln; a brother, William A. (Beverly) Taylor, Jr. of Fort Mill, S.C.; and two sisters: Diane (Barclay) Wellman of Jamestown and Nancy Taylor of Rochester, N.Y.

In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Steele Taylor, whom he married on Oct. 11, 1975, and who passed away Sept., 24, 2004; and a brother, Lawrence R. “Lawrie” Taylor, who passed away March 4, 2019.

Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22., at Lind Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Dr. David Cooke will officiate. Burial with military honors will take place at Sunset Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Chautauqua Hospice & Palliative Care, or the Boy Scouts of America or the Roger Tory Peterson Institute.
