Lona S. Howard

Born April 1, 1933, in Ellery Center, a daughter of the late Mark and Geneva Lindsey Sample. She was a 1951 graduate of Bemus Point High School.

She was employed at Weber Knapp for over 25 years as a billing clerk until 1977, served as Stockton town clerk for four years, TOPS Fredonia as a cake decorator, Dunkirk Ice Cream as a packer and line operator and continuously assisted her late husband with the daily operation of the family dairy farm and was a former member of Farm Bureau.

Lona was an avid reader, loved crocheting and made over 120 afghans/blankets and cherished time spent with her grandchildren.

Wife of 45 years to the late Everett “Chat” Howard, whom she married Aug. 27, 1960n and who died Sept. 15, 2005; mother of Linda (Jeff) Willoughby of Cassadaga, Carolyn Howard of Warren, Pa., Betty (Jeremy) Catanese and Debbie (Rob Clark) Howard, all of Stockton and the late Barbara (Aug. 7, 2016) and Jeffrey (Oct. 7, 1996) Hoyt; grandmother of Allyson (Fiance, Jeff Rickerson) Willoughby and Alycia Willoughby of Cassadaga, Jennifer (Matt) Zakrzewski of Fountain, Colo., Jonathan (Amanda Shilling) Hoyt and Lauren Hoyt, all of Ashville, Patricia (Michael Lowe) of Busti and Courtney Proper of Warren, Pa., and Hope and Garrett Catanese of Stockton; great-grandmother of Wyatt and Mason Zakrzewski, Willow and Lilian Hoyt and baby Lowe who’s due in April; sister of Herbert (Donna) Sample of Jamestown and the late Eldora Bowen. Also survived by nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Jordan Funeral Home, Sinclairville. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Stockton.
