Neil J. Ormond

Neil J. Ormond, 87, of Kennedy, passed away Sunday (Oct. 13, 2019) in the Lutheran Home.

A lifelong area resident, he was born Aug. 13, 1932, in Randolph, N.Y., the son of the late Charles and Julia Boe Ormond.

Neil attended Randolph High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving as a flight mechanic with the Kyushu Gypsies 21stTroop Carrier Squadron during the Korean War.

In earlier years. he was employed by National Worsted Mills, Jamestown Malleable Iron and Falconer Central School. Prior to retirement he was employed by Carborundum- Monofrax for over 30 years.

Neil was a motorcycle enthusiast and was a member of the American Motorcycle Association, Southern Tier Riders Motorcycle Club, having been a founding member, Randolph Post 181, American Legion, War Vets, Veterans of Foreign Wars, AMVETS, Ellington Rod & Gun Club and Kennedy Fire Department. He was a former member of the Randolph Moose, the Vikings, and Town of Poland Senior Citizens.

He enjoyed riding motorcycles, playing several musical instruments including the harmonica, banjo and guitar. Neil also enjoyed traveling, gardening, birds and socializing at “Neil’s Tavern.”

Surviving are two daughters: Wendy Ormond of Erie, Pa., and Kendra Ormond Waddington (Kris) of Falconer; four grandchildren: Brandy Kinney (Justin) of Randolph, Angela Ormond of Falconer, Cody Waddington of Falconer and Dylan Waddington of Fredonia; two great- grandchildren: Taige Neal Kinney and Gemma Rose Kinney; a brother, Thomas Ormond of Kennedy; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose M. Funcell Ormond, whom he married Feb. 23, 1956, and who died April 20, 2010; a sister, Donna Cross; and two brothers: Grant and Robin Ormond.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Falconer Funeral Home. The Rev. Timothy J. Hoyer, pastor of Bethlehem Lutheran Church will officiate. Inurnment will be in Valley View Cemetery at a later date.

Friends will be received by the family from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
