MAYVILLE — Colin “Tom” T. Craig, 75, of Mayville, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019, at Saint Vincent Hospital in Erie, Pa.

He was born April 4, 1944, in New York City, the son of the late Peter M. and May Tarpey Craig.

Tom had been a professor with the English Department at SUNY Fredonia for 21 years prior to his retirement in September. He had previously been an accountant and bookkeeper for several car dealerships in Ohio. His early work experience was as an usher at Shea’s Theater in Jamestown and as an usher and assistant manager at Dipson’s Palace Theater in Jamestown. He also worked as an assistant manager and manager at the Cinema I and II Theaters in Ohio.

His early love of the theater continued through- out his life. He enjoyed trips to New York City for theater productions and as an adjunct professor at SUNY Fredonia, he delighted in sharing his love of theater and movies with his drama and film students. Tom also taught composition classes at SUNY Fredonia.

He was a member of the NEA (National Education Association), the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club and a former attendee of Saint Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church in Jamestown.

Tom enjoyed rooting for his beloved Cleveland Browns, as well as reading, gardening, listening to music and attending movies and theater productions. He loved animals and enjoyed the companionship of his two dogs and five cats.

He is survived by his wife, Jane M. Wilcock Craig, whom he married Sept. 2, 2000 in St Paul’s Episcopal Church in Mayville; two daughters: Diane (Ray “Butch”) Anderson of Mayville and Jennifer McConnell of Mayville; four grandchildren: Erik and Alexa Anderson and Sean and Liam McConnell; one sister-in-law, Phyllis Craig; five nephews: Steve and Scott Craig and Bob, Jack and Tom Delaney; two nieces: Debra Craig and Margaret Gillen; and several great-nieces and nephews.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Peter Craig; a sister, Margaret Delaney; and a nephew, Michael Delaney.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date at the convenience of the family.
