Paul Howard Johnson

Paul Howard Johnson, 65, of East Bethel, Minn., formerly of, Jamestown, N.Y., passed away July 14, 2019, after a long illness.

Born in Beloit, Wis., the son of Howard and Mary Edgerton Johnson, he moved to Jamestown at the age of 13. He was a 1972 graduate of Jamestown High School in the mechanical technical program. He went to work for MRC Bearings shortly after high school as a junior draftsman. He continued his education at night while working full time, graduating from Jamestown Community College, Rochester Institute of Technology and GMI (now Kettering University), with degrees in mechanical engineering and engineering management. At the time of his retirement he was a staff engineer working for SKF Aeroengine (formerly MRC Bearings and TRW) for a total of 40 years.

He was an accomplished guitarist, a car enthusiast, a history buff (especially World War II history), a race fan (anything with wheels), a fine scale modeler and furniture restorer. He loved to engineer solutions to problems, especially those others thought could not be done. This came in handy after the stroke when he lost the use of his left hand as he figured out ways to work on models and his furniture projects.

In 2018, he and Jeanne moved from their home of 40 years on Laurie Lane in Jamestown a thousand miles away to be near family, especially his grandchildren. They added an addition to their sons home where they were able to see them every day.

He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 41 years, Jeanne Bull Johnson; daughter, Sarah Elizabeth (Rob Olson) of Rochester, N.Y.; son, Matthew Allen (Erin) of East Bethel, Minn.; three grandchildren: Jason Noah, Jack Henry and Lucille Isobel, all of East Bethel, Minn.; his sisters: Helen Pearlman (Howard) of Eden Prairie, Minn., and Elizabeth Faust (Steven) of Sun Prairie, Wis.; sisters-in-law: Judith Eaton and Katharine Vezina; brothers-in-law, Mark Bull and Bruce Eaton; and nieces and nephews: Jessie, Joey and Paula Pearlman, Emily and April Faust, Jeffery Bull, Dolores Myers, Teirra Greene and Taileane Jaggi.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant twin sons; and brothers -in-law: Edwin Well, Richard Vezina and Michael Bull.

Paul was buried in Cedar Cemetery in Oak Grove, Minn.

A memorial service will be held in First Covenant Church, 520 Spring St, Jamestown, N.Y., on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 11 a.m. A luncheon will follow.
