SOUTH DAYTON, N.Y. — Helen R. Szymanski, 88, of South Dayton, N.Y., passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2019, at Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation in Dunkirk, N.Y.

She was born Oct. 2, 1930, in South Dayton, N.Y., the daughter of the late Orson and Bertha (Volk) Ruckh.

Mrs. Szymanski was married to Fred Szymanski who predeceased her on Dec. 4, 1996.

She was employed for many years at Campbell’s, Super Duper and Jubille grocery stores in Gowanda, N.Y.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in South Dayton, N.Y., Slovenian Club in Gowanda, N.Y. and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary in Cherry Creek, N,Y.

Mrs. Szymanski is survived by a son Joseph (Lesa) Szymanski of Sandy, Utah; two daughters: Julie (Rick) Young of Cherry Creek, N.Y., and Janis Szymanski of South Dayton, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her loving husband, she was predeceased by three brothers: Vernon, Donald and Robert Ruckh; and three sisters: Myrtle Warren, Dorothy Farnham and Marjorie Szymanski.

A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced.

Memorials may be made to the South Dayton Volunteer Fire Department. The family would like to thank WCA Home and Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation for the wonderful care of their mother.
