Frances O. “Frannie” Carlson

Frances O. “Frannie” Carlson, 74, of Panama, N.Y., passed away at 2:26 p.m., Tuesday, June 18, 2019, in her home.

A lifelong area resident, she was born Feb. 16, 1945, in Jamestown, N.Y., a daughter of the late Frank J. and Iona Ruth Mandaville Opalecky.

She was a 1963 graduate of Panama Central School and earned her associates degree from Jamestown Community College in 1987.

Before her retirement, she had worked as a meat cutter for the former Fairbank Farms in Ashville, N.Y. She had also worked for Weise Hardware in Panama and for the Chautauqua County Alcohol and Substance Abuse Council.

Frannie was happiest when she was outside working on the farm and taking care of her “fur” animals. In earlier years, she enjoyed cooking, sewing and knitting.

Surviving are her husband, George C. “Skip” Carlson, whom she married June 7, 1992; two brothers: Robert Opalecky of Oneonta, N.Y., and Chester Opalecky of Blockville, N.Y., as well as several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her close friends and neighbors, Steve and Krista Odell, who joined in her love of farming and raising animals together.

A private family service will be held in the Lind Funeral Home. Visitation will not be observed. Burial will be in the Panama Union Cemetery.
