DEWITTVILLE — David W. Parker, 83, of Dewittville, died Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at UPMC Hamot, Erie, Pa.

He was born Nov. 7, 1935, in Dewittville, the son of the late Grant W. and Jewell Lindal Parker.

Dave was a graduate of Mayville Central School and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He had worked for the Dewittville Post Office for 35 years as a rural route mail carrier where part of his route went through Bemus Point. In earlier years, he had worked for Chautauqua Malted Milk, and Weber Knapp in Jamestown. Dave also ran his own dairy and beef farm, delivered The Post- Journal, and was the sole owner and operator of Parker’s Greenhouse which his mother had started and now has been in business for over 50 years. Dave was the current superintendent of the Dewittville Cemetery and had served in this position for multiple years. He was a life member of the Dewittville Fire Department, a member of the fire police unit, was named Dewittville Firefighter of the year in 2017, was the current chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Dewittville Fire District, and a previous councilmen for the Town of Chautauqua. Every summer, he donated his time to the Mayville and Sherman fire departments directing traffic at their annual parades. He attended the Dewittville-Hartfield United Methodist Church, was a member of the Peacock Lodge 0696 F&AM and the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club.

He enjoyed the fire department, tending to his greenhouse, watching things grow, farming, raising honeybees, cows and producing maple syrup.

Dave is survived by his wife, Katherine “Kitty” Nelson Parker, whom he married Oct. 23, 1993, in the First Baptist Church of Jamestown; a daughter, Joanie (Doug) Clamp of Ashville; two grandchildren: Michael and Olivia Clamp of Ashville; a very close nephew, Bill (Pam) Gross of Westfield and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Herbert Parker; and three sisters: Stella Gross, Ellena Lucas and Ann Vanscyoc, and nephews; John Parker and Edwin Gross Jr.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m., on Monday, June 10, 2019, at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville. The Rev. Mark Parsons will officiate. Burial will be in the Dewittville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 3-7 p.m., on Sunday, June 9, at the funeral home.
