William E. “Bill” Curry Jr.

William E. “Bill” Curry Jr., 70, of Jamestown, passed away Monday, May 27, 2019, in the Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility.

A lifelong area resident, he was born Feb, 1, 1949, in Jamestown, the son of the late William E. Curry Sr. and Mavis Sinclair Curry.

Bill was a 1967 graduate of Southwestern Central High School. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1967-71, stationed in Darmstadt, Germany, as a communications specialist.

Bill had been employed at Cummins Engine, retiring in 2014. Previously, he worked at AMSCO Jamestown and Union National.

He was a member of the Celoron Moose and the Herman Kent Post 777 American Legion in Celoron, where he served as acting commander of the firing squad, chaplain, and first vice commander (membership chairman).

Bill enjoyed lawn work, gardening, making apple butter, korv, strawberry preserves, gloog, peach moonshine, and apple pie. His favorite time was spent hosting and being the chef at the summer family parties, making dessert and breads.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy Taft Curry, whom he married Dec. 24, 1995; three children: Allison (Brian) King of North Port, Fla., Missy (Dr. Matthew) Gutierrez of Bow, N.H., Ben (Michelle) Curry of Buffalo; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, James A. (Jan) Curry of Busti; and two sisters: Nancy A. Hunt of Jamestown and Susan J. (Ron) Valdman of Mentor, Ohio.

The family would like to thank the staff of Heritage Green, UPMC Chautauqua, UPMC Hamot, Amedysis, and Dr. Ong for their compassionate care.

Full military honors will be accorded at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 1 in the Lind Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m., Friday, May 31 in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Lung Association or the American Heart Association.
