Susan A. Hallin

Susan A. Hallin, 74, of 43 Woodworth Ave., Jamestown, N.Y., passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2019, in the Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility.

An area resident for most of her life, she was born Sept. 23, 1944, in Erie, Pa., a daughter of the late Wilfred L. and Maybelle J. Bremmer Sonn.

She was a 1962 graduate of Erie East High School and a 1964 graduate of Jamestown Community College. She earned her bachelor’s degree in education from the State University of New York at Fredonia in 1966.

Before her retirement, she worked as a teacher for the Early Childhood Center at Jamestown Community College for 18 years. In previous years, she had worked at the Zion Covenant Church Preschool for 10 years, the Fluvanna Elementary School and the Greece Elementary School in Greece, N.Y.. In 2004, she was recognized by the Chautauqua County Association for the Education of Young Children, for her time as a preschool teacher. She was described by parents as patient, enthusiastic, inspiring, knowledgeable and musical.

She was a longtime active member of the Christ First United Methodist Church and the former Epworth Christ United Methodist Church. She was a Sunday school teacher for 40 years, sang in the choir and was a youth director with her husband, Erv for several years.

Sue loved cooking, baking and spending time with her family and friends. She will be missed for her fun-loving personality, kind-hearted nature and cheerful smile.

Surviving are her husband, J. Ervan Hallin, whom she married June 24, 1967; four children: Kristi Lynn (Mike) Overbeck of Lilburn, Ga., Darren J. Hallin of Newnan, Ga., Darci Ann (Jason) Turnage of Canton, Ga., Shawn R. (Jessica) Hallin of Louisville, Ky.; three grandchildren; Dylan Hallin and Kate Hallin, both of Louisville, Ky., and Lauren Turnage of Canton, Ga.; her brother, Roger Sonntag of Rochester, N.Y.; and her beloved dog, Charlie.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her dear aunt and uncle, Robert and Althea Johnson.

A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced by the Lind Funeral Home.
