Janice L. (Spangenburg) VanDamme

Janice L. (Spangenburg) VanDamme, 88, of Jamestown passed away Saturday (April 6, 2019) in the Lutheran Home.

An area resident most of her life she was born November 1, 1930 in Olean, the daughter of the late Hildur O. Johnson and Joseph Marowski Sr. She moved to Jamestown at an early age.

Janice was a 1947 graduate of Jamestown High School and in earlier years was employed by National Worsted Mills as a secretary, Ellison Bronze Company in payroll, Ingersoll Rand, Proto Tool Division as personal secretary, and for Dr. Frank Tilaro as a medical assistant. Her last place of employment was part-time at Big K Mart as a cashier.

She was a member of the Herman Kent Post 777, American Legion Auxiliary. Janice was a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary Color Guard, John W. Tiffany Post 53, VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Women of the Moose Falconer Lodge 2301, AARP, US Humane Society. She was a former coach for Special Olympics Roller-Skating.

Janice will be remembered as a devoted and loving mother and fun grandmother.

Surviving are three children Cheryl L. (Dr. Frank) Tilaro of Ogden, Utah; Ronald A. Spangenburg (Debera Scheik) of Greece, N.Y.;Lawrence E. (Cathy) Spangenburg of Falconer; a son-in-law George D’Angelo of Jamestown; six grandchildren, Kristin Hendricks, Cara D’Angelo, Jessica D’Angelo, Sarah Spangenburg, Lawrence E. (LJ) Spangenburg Jr., Tessa Spangenburg; and a brother Gilbert Herlet.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Joris C. VanDamme in 1995; her daughter Carol J. D’Angelo on Oct. 9, 2016; a brother Joseph Marowski Jr.; and a sister Marie Easton.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 20, 2019 in the Falconer Funeral Home. Rev. Daniel S. Rumfelt chaplain of Lutheran Home will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.

Friends will be received by the family from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, April 19, 2019 in the funeral home.
