Ivan L. DeHoff

Ivan L. DeHoff of Gerry, NY, (formerly of Maplecrest, N.Y.) passed away Thursday (Jan. 17, 2019) in Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing.

He was born March 31, 1922, in West Point, N.Y., the son of the late Ivan F. and Ruby Mower DeHoff.

Ivan was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II from Oct. 14, 1942 to Nov. 6, 1945. He was stationed in Iceland serving as aviation machinist mate first class. When he returned home from the war he was employed by New York Telephone Company as installer repairman specialist, retiring with 35 years of service in 1980.

An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed many years of hunting, fishing, hiking and camping with family and friends. A self-taught wood carver, in his retirement, he enjoyed carving well over one hundred duck decoys which he gifted to family and friends.

He was a devoted Christian, husband and father, living out his faith daily. He attended the Gerry United Methodist Church. Having never met a stranger, he was quick to help anyone in need.

Surviving are two children: Linda Deats (Dave) Leupold of North Chili, N.Y., and Dean (Carolyn) DeHoff of Morehead, Ky.; five grandchildren: Craig (Jennie) Deats, Michael (Linda Ann) Deats, Brandie (Kevin) Trent, Robin (Craig) Stogran and Mary Horn; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Edwin (Dorothy) DeHoff; and several nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Gertrude Frasier DeHoff, whom he married Jan. 10, 1943 (date of death June 9, 2013); a son Donald L. DeHoff; a son-in-law, Marvin Deats; a brother, Frederick DeHoff: and two sisters: Irene Finch and Leona Hart.

A memorial service will be held on the campus of Heritage Village in Seeley Chapel, Feb. 16, 2019, at 2 p.m. Family will receive guests at 1 p.m. Interment will be at a later date in Maplecrest, N.Y.
