Alfred Welker

Alfred Welker, 93, of 131 McKinley Ave., Jamestown, passed away at 10:56 a.m. Sunday, Dec, 2, 2018, in UPMC Chautauqua.

He was born May 24, 1925, in Crvenka, Yugoslavia, a son of the late Peter and Rosina Trisler Welker.

Before his retirement, he was employed as a tool and die maker for the former Falconer Metal Specialties, where he worked for 39 years.

He was a member of the Western New York Beekeepers Association and the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club. He enjoyed spending time listening to his short wave radio and loved gardening, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family especially watching his grandson, Ben.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years, the former Benita Poder, whom he married Sept. 18, 1954; three children: Kate Welker of Cambridge, Mass., Thomas (Yvonne) Welker of Farmington, Pa., and James (Kari) Welker of Lakewood, N.Y.; his grandson, Benjamin Welker of Lakewood, N.Y.; and a sister-in-law, Maria Welker of Jamestown.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Peter Welker, who died Jan. 8, 1983.

A private family service will be held in the Lind Funeral Home. Visitation will not be observed.

The family wishes that memorials be made to a charity of one’s choice.
