Henrietta Whittington

She was born Jan. 1, 1927, in Cassadaga, N.Y., the daughter of the late Merlin Allen and Gertrude Chisholm Briggs.

Henrietta was a 1945 graduate of Cassadaga High School. She then entered the U.S. Army Nursing Cadet program and was later employed at Jamestown General Hospital. From 1951-72. Along with her husband, William Whittington, she owned and operated Hillside Nursing Home in Jamestown, N.Y. She later moved to Florida and worked as a charge nurse in a nursing home in Lakeland, Fla. She retired at the age of 72.

Henrietta was a longtime member and past Worthy Matron of Mecca-Mt. Sinai Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in Jamestown, N.Y., and was Right Worthy District Grand Matron of Chautauqua County in 1973. She was also a member of the White Shrine. Henrietta enjoyed embroidery and doing crafts.

Henrietta is survived by her five children: Rosalie Logue, Linda Gould and Clayton Whittington, all of Warren, Pa., Mary Whittington of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Donald (Wendy) Whittington of Lakewood, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Henrietta was preceded in death by her husband, William Whittington, whom she married in 1954; a son, David Whittington; and a brother, Harold Briggs.

The family will gather privately at the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, 304 East St., Warren, Pa., where a private service will be held with the Rev. Marcus Briggs, retired minister officiating. Interment will be in Lake View Cemetery, Jamestown, N.Y.
