Anna Mae Fisher

Anna Mae (Merriam) Fisher, 88, of Jamestown, N.Y., passed away Nov. 7, 2018, in Jamestown.

Anna Mae was born May 8, 1930, in Utica, N.Y. to the late Johanna (Crofoot) Merriam and Fay Merriam. She graduated valedictorian from Boonville High School in 1948. She married Jack Fisher on Nov. 24, 1949 in Boonville, N.Y. She dedicated her life to raising her children and providing a home for her family no matter where they lived. Her life with Jack and their children led them to live in multiple parts of New York state, Ecuador, Vermont and North Carolina.

She was a kind and soft-spoken woman, though it would be wrong to mistake that soft-spokenness for having a lack of opinion. She had a firm belief in the importance of being a kind and good person. She also cherished cooking for her family, doing crossword puzzles with her husband, and reading a good book — including the occasional romance novel. She was known for her fast-paced reading (sometimes reading multiple books a week) and cooking amazing meals –skills that many of her children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren inherited.

Anna Mae is preceded in death by her parents; her daughter-in-law, Marlene Fisher; and her grandson- in-law, Collin Hayes.

She is survived by her husband, Jack Fisher; her brother, James (Donna) Merriam; her children: David (Judy) Fisher, Dan (Jill) Fisher, Leslie (Peter) Vattimo and Mark Fisher; and her grandchildren: Sarah (Jason) Bowen, Daniel (Amanda) Fisher, Leanna (Dan) Watson, Bryan Fisher, Vanessa Weinert, Stephanie Fisher, Alexandra (Ben Hicks) Weinert, David Fisher and Katie Fisher. She felt truly blessed to be able to meet and fall in love with her six great-grandchildren: Zara, Gia, Miles, Isla, Emma and Violet.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family with her final resting place in Lake View Cemetery in Jamestown.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Chautauqua County Humane Society. Anna Mae cherished animals and held a special fondness for cats.
