Bernice J. Swanson

Bernice J. Swanson, 94, of 106 W. Main St., Frewsburg, formerly of Cassadaga and Bemus Point, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2018, in UPMC Chautauqua.

She was born Oct. 28, 1923, in Akron, Ohio, a daughter of the late Rudolph and Ethel Hill Johnson.

She was a 1941 graduate of Bemus Point High School.

Prior to her retirement in 1993, she was employed by Anderson Winchester Insurance Company as office manager. She later worked for Stager Adjusters.

She was a charter member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church, Bemus Point and later joined Zion Lutheran Church, Frewsburg.

She was a member of Ellery Senior Citizens and a former member of the Cassadaga- Lily Dale-Stockton Senior Citizens. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed counted cross stitch, reading and cards with friends.

Surviving are two daughters Elaine (John) Crossley of Frewsburg and Mary Housholder of Franklin, Pa.; two grandchildren: William (Amy) Crossley of Canton, MI and Sharyl Crossley of Chattanooga, Tenn.; six great-grandchildren: Gabrielle, Arianna, Lily, Isabel, Asher and Beckett Crossley; and a brother, Allen Johnson of Frewsburg.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard F. Swanson, whom she married April 5, 1945, and who died Feb. 9, 1985; and infant granddaughter, Alexia Crossley; a brother, Donald Johnson; and a son, in law Hugh Housholder.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Zion Lutheran Church, Frewsburg. The Rev. Phillip Roushey and the Rev. Daniel Rumfelt will officiate. Burial will be in Bemus Point Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 3-5 p.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service Wednesday in the church.
