Lucille Mae Crandall Potts

Lucille Mae Crandall Potts of Memory Garden went to be with her Lord on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2018, at 12:10 p.m. She was 89.

Lucille was born Febr. 10, 1929, in WCA Hospital, Jamestown, N.Y., to Herman Crandall and Doris DeVlieger Crandall Gesaman.

She graduated from Panama Central School in 1946.

During WW ll she volunteered with the Civil Air Patrol. She graduated from Doyle Beauty School in Buffalo and owned and operated Colvin Beauty Salon in Tonawanda. It was during this time that she met the love of her life, Barclay Potts. They were married Nov. 4, 1950.

In 1956, they moved to Jamestown and bought a home on Hazeltine Avenue, where they lived for 51 years, raising their family. Lucille started and operated the first beauty shop at Lutheran Retirement Home in 1965 and continued serving there until 1989. After her retirement, she worked at Chautauqua Institution as a security guard. She served mostly at the Main Gate.

Lucille was a member of First Covenant Church for 60 years. She was a Sunday School teacher, sang in the choir and Living Christmas Tree, enjoyed Women’s Ministries and served as a trustee.

“Lucy” loved her husband, family and friends. She loved to be busy! She enjoyed crafts, ceramics, stained glass, card games, baking and traveling. She and Barclay enjoyed 24 winters together in Florida and had many wonderful “snow bird” friends. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels and as a “Brownie” leader.

Lucille is preceded in death by her brother, Herman Crandall Jr., and her son, Barclay “Skip” Potts, Jr., and daughter-in-law, Jan Hallstrom Potts.

Besides her husband, she is survived by a brother, Roger Crandall; a daughter, Carolyn Potts; a son, David Potts; a daughter, Linda (Robert) Walrod; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Potts; half-sisters, Donna Wallen and Debbie Crandall; and a half-brother, Dennis Crandall. Her grandchildren include Timothy McGinnis, Patrick (Jenny) McGinnis, Janelle Potts, Joelle (Duane) VanEtten, Brett Potts, Aaron Potts, Annemarie Potts, Lisa (Matthew) Stanton and Sandra Walrod. She has three great-grandchildren, Elliana, Isaac and Emma Stanton.

Visitation will be at Lind Funeral Home on Wed from 4-6 p.m.

The funeral will be held at 11 am Thursday, Aug. 9, at First Covenant Church with the Rev Adam Rohler officiating.
