Thomas Raymond Spacht

SHERMAN –Thomas Raymond Spacht, 90, of Sherman, died Tuesday, July 17, 2018, at his home.

He was born May 12, 1928, the son of the late Joseph and Laura Moyer Spacht.

Tom had been a heavy equipment mechanic and master fabricator for HK Nuttall Equipment in Sherman.

He had been active for many years as a Boy Scout and Cub Scout leader, a life member of Sherman’s Stanley Hose Fire Company, serving as chief for many years and was also on the Village of Sherman Board of Trustees.

Tom enjoyed camping and being in the outdoors, woodworking on bird houses and bird feeders, traveling out west and being around people, especially his family. In earlier years he ran Spinks Campground for several years, and raced cars at Sherman Speedway.

He is survived by his two children; Raymond Spacht Sr. of Jamestown, and Susan (Gary) Nelson of Sherman; three grandchildren: Raymond Spacht Jr,, of Sherman, Melissa (Jason) Morisson of Topeka, Kans., and Ashley Nelson of Asheville, N.C.; three great-grandchildren: Jessie and Jonathan Morisson and Loyea Spacht; and several nieces and nephews.

Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Bagley Spacht, whom he married Nov. 6, 1948, in Sherman; two brothers: Joe and Jim Spacht; and one sister, Sarah Monroe.

A celebration of Tom’s life will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2018, from 3-6 p.m., at the Stanley Hose Fire Company, 122 Park St., Sherman, NY 14781.
