Georgiana Sleigh Whitcomb

Georgiana Sleigh Whitcomb, 78, formerly of 208 Ahrens Ave., died Saturday, July 14, 2018, in Heritage Village, Gerry, N.Y. She was born May 6, 1940 in Homer City, Pa., the daughter of the late Benner L. and Saddie E. Elder Sleigh.

In her younger days, Georgiana and her family took many camping trips; then later in life had a permanent camp sight at Homestead camp grounds. They made many wonderful friends, and created many memories.

Georgiana and her husband, Bill, were members of St Luke’s Church, where Georgiana was a member of the alter guild and Wednesday group. She also enjoyed china painting and meeting with a small group of classmates for lunch every week. Georgiana remained lifelong friends with her classmate, Marlene Roth, whom she met in seventh grade. She babysat Jessica and Bruce Carlson from when they were infants into their early teen years. She loved them like they were her own.

For many years she volunteered for Meals on Wheels. She was the main caregiver for her mother, and later in life for her husband Bill. She loved her family, friends and throughout the years many pets. Her grandkids and great-grandkids were the center of her universe.

Georgiana spent her last remaining years in care of the Alzheimer’s wing at Heritage Village.

She is survived by two sons: Todd (Dolores) Whitcomb and Kurt (Kathy) Whitcomb; two brothers: Richard (Carol) Sleigh and Jack (Marcia) Sleigh; four grandchildren: Remington, Kayleigh, Emalie and Connor; five great-grandchildren: Shai, Joplynn, Myka, Storm, and Karson.

Georgiana is preceded in death by her mother and father; her husband, William A. Whitcomb; and by a sister-in-law, Linda Sleigh.

Friends will be received from 5-6 p.m. Thursday, July 19, 2018, in the Migliore Funeral Home, where a funeral Service will be held at 6 p.m. following viewing. The Rev. Luke Fodor, pastor of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church will officiate. A committal service will be held on Friday, July 20, 2018, at 11 a.m. in Lakeview Cemetery.
