Calvin E. Chase

ASHVILLE, N.Y. — Calvin E. Chase, 84, formerly of Duke Center, Pa., passed away July 15, 2018, at the Heritage Green Nursing Facility in Greenhurst following a lengthy illness.

Born June 27, 1934, in Eldred, Pa., he was a son of James W. and Ruby B. Davenport Chase. On May 25, 1985, in the Duke Center United Methodist Church, he married Alice “Arlene” Simpson, who passed away Oct. 2, 2011.

He attended Otto High School in Duke Center and had resided in Duke Center for many years and since 2011 had wintered in Cape Coral, Fla.

Calvin was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars and had served in the U.S. Air Force for 21 years retiring as a technical sergeant in transportation in 1972. He then was employed by Flickengers Food Service in Falconer, N.Y., as a semi-truck driver for 20 years.

Cal attended the Duke Center United Methodist Church and had been a member of the Eldred American Legion Post No. 887, the Moose Lodge in Cape Coral and the AARP.

Surviving are two sons, Calvin (Terri) Chase of Cape Coral and Scott (Tammy) Chase of Randolph, N.Y.; a daughter, Kimbra Chase of Cape Coral; two stepsons: Bill (Karen) Snow of Rixford and Marty (Ann) Russell of New Berlin, Pa.; a step- daughter, Andrea Root of Duke Center; 12 grandchildren: Kate (Steven) Postle, Adam (Emily) Sweeney, Nicholas (Monica) Chase, Danielle Chase, Meghan Chase, Billy (Jennifer) Snow, Jennie (JR) Smith, Robb (Linley) Root, Zachary (Liz) Russell, Jordan Russell, Colby (Kayla) Russell and Chelsea Chase; 13 great-grandchildren; five brothers: James (Lillian) Chase of Ashville, Kenneth “Bud” (Betty) Chase in California, Theodore (Diane) Chase of Blockville, N.Y., Gary Chase of Celeron, N.Y., and Ronald Chase of Lakewood, N.Y.; two sisters: Sandra Chase of Port Allegany and Carol (Robert) Wolf of Warren.

Cal was preceded in death by two sisters: Dorothy Dutchess and Shirley Holland.

Friends may call at the Frame Funeral Home in Eldred, Pa., on Wednesday from 2-5 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Thursday (July 19th) at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Mike McAvoy officiating. Full military honors will be presented by the Eldred American Legion Post 887 Honor Guard. Burial will follow in the McKean Memorial Park, Lafayette. Pa.

Memorials may be made to the American Legion or the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the donor’s choice, or to the American Cancer Society.
