Dorothy M. “Dode” (Dean) Hall

WESTFIELD — Dorothy M. “Dode” (Dean) Hall, age 93, of Westfield, formerly of Sherman, N.Y., died Friday, June 8, 2018, at home in Westfield.

Dorothy was born on Oct. 14, 1924, in Fredonia, N.Y., the daughter of the late Ernest and Gertrude (Vidal) Dean.

A Sherman resident most all her life, Dorothy had resided in Westfield for the past seven years to be closer to her family. She was raised on the family farm in Mina and graduated from Sherman Schools. She had been a long time member of 4-H and continued her involvement with Country Life Club.

She had been employed by General Electric in Erie, Sears and Roebuck, the former Farmers Mill in Sherman, as a seamstress at the former Bigelow’s Dept. Store in Jamestown and at the former Barmon Brothers Garment factory in Westfield as an inspector. However, she found her passion caring for other people and retired as a Home Health Aide, lastly working with Chautauqua Opportunities of Dunkirk.

“Dode” was an avid bird watcher, loved flower gardening, all sorts of crafts, jigsaw puzzles and when able, traveling. She volunteered at the Information booth at the Daniel Reed Pier in Barcelona and also volunteered for the Chautauqua County RSVP Program.

She is survived by a daughter, Betty (Rick Townsend) Perkins of Westfield, N.Y.; and three sons: William Perkins of McAllen, Texas, David (Bunnie Jo) Perkins of Westfield, N.Y., and Thomas (Lorna) Perkins of Tama, Iowa. She is further survived by her two brothers: Jack Dean of Sebring, Fla., and the Rev. Edwin Dean of Salem, Ore., as well as her step-daughter, Kathy (Hall) (Paul) Benware of Greenhurst, N.Y., and her Step-son, David (Cynthia) Hall of Gerry, N,Y.

In addition to her mother and father she was preceded in death by her Daddy, Lee White; her sister, Verna Lee Mason, her second husband, Virgil Camp; and her third husband, Stanley G. Hall.

A Memorial Service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Westfield, 9 Kent St., Westfield, at a time and date to be announced. Private burial will be in Sherman Cemetery.
