Norma (Walker, Pickard) Iacomini

Norma passed away peacefully Jan. 12, 2018, with family by her side, at the Briarwood Assisted Living Facility in Stow, Ohio.

She was born Nov. 17, 1927, in Jamestown, N.Y.

Preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Sadie Walker; a sister, Maxine Stacey; her husbands: Edward Iacomini and Mervin Pickard, the father of her children; her stepfather, Gerald Cronk; her son- in-law, Robert DeBaun; granddaughter, Robin Wadsworth Madison; and lifetime friends, Alonzo and Geneva Sears

She is survived by a son, Dennis (Audrey) Pickard of Mogadore, Ohio; a daughter, Brenda DeBaun of Stow, Ohio; brother, Harry Walker of Ellington, N.Y.; sister, Laura Ann Cronk Gilbert; and brothers: Phil Cronk of Western N.Y., and Ken Cronk of Kenosha. She is also survived by grandchildren: Lisa (Dave) Yeager, Tina Lauver, Teri (Matt) Smith and Jami (Jim) Obermeyer; grandsons: Dennis (Paula) Pickard, Bob Wadsworth and Jack (Shellie) Wadsworth; 14 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great- grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Norma spent the first 39 years of her life in Chautauqua Country, N,Y. Attending Falconer Central Schools, working as a foreman/supervisor in a steel furniture factory. She receiving her cosmetology license and opened her own Beauty Shop.

Norma moved to Ohio in 1966, where she learned restaurant management. Starting up the ladder at The Club House Lounge and Bob’s Big Boy (Manners). Next came an offer from The Women’s Board at Akron General Hospital to manage The Gift and Snack Shop. During this time, she became a member of the Akron Restaurant Association. Years later, she was voted in as their president. When her husband, Eddie passed away she assumed ownership and managed IACOMINI’S RESTAURANT, located at 321 W. Exchange in Akron.

Norma loved her trips to Ireland. Norma carried her homeland in her heart all of her life.

On Nov. 17, 2017, Norma’s 90th Birthday, the family decided to have a special party. Family and friends from across the country attended. Little did anyone realize they were attending Norma’s “Celebration of Life,” with her being able to be there and enjoy it!

A special thank you to everyone who cared for and comforted Norma. Dr. Mark Smith, Dr. Charles Davis, Dr. George Laikos, the entire team in the Briarwood Assisted Living Facility, Skilled Nursing, Rehab and the Activities Department and Asera Care Hospice.

Per Norma’s wishes there will be no services.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial donations in Norma’s name should be made to your favorite charity or to The Haven of Rest (Akron, Ohio), Asera Care – Hospice (Akron, OH) or the Briarwood ALF Activities Department (Stow, Ohio)
