Frank J. Fonti Sr.

Frank J. Fonti Sr., 92, of Falconer passed away Sunday (Oct. 8, 2017) in UPMC Chautauqua WCA.

A lifelong area resident, he was born Dec. 6, 1924, in Falconer, N.Y., the son of the late Phillip and Grace Provenzano Fonti.

Frank was a 1943 graduate of Falconer High School and was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Navy Seabee’s from 1943 to 1945 in the Pacific Theatre.

Prior to retirement he was employed by Monofrax-Carborundum and served as the Code Enforcement Officer for the Village of Falconer, Town of Ellicott and Town of Ellington.

He was a member of Our Lady of Loreto Catholic Church, OLL Holy Name Society and was a charter member of the Henry Mosher Post 638, American Legion. In earlier years, after serving in the military, Frank played semi-pro football for the Warren Red Jackets. In the 1950’s and 1960’s Frank had coached several local area football and baseball teams. He enjoyed antiquing, fishing, golfing, bowling and was an avid New York Yankees and Buffalo Bills fan.

Surviving are his wife, Josephine M. Milanowski Fonti whom he married July 26, 1947, in Holy Cross Catholic Church, Salamanca, N.Y.; two sons: Phillip J. (Sherry) Fonti of Falconer and Frank J. (Linda) Fonti Jr. of Gowanda; three grandchildren: Patrick Fonti of Seminole, Fla., Andrea Fonti-Voltz (Dan Voltz) of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Kara Fonti of Gowanda; a sister, Mary (Howard) Moore of Falconer; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Salvatore J. Fonti and Phillip S. Fonti Jr.; three sisters: Concetta LaBarbera, Jennie Ribaudo and Lucile Rosenthal.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in Our Lady of Loreto Catholic Church. Rev. Joseph Janaczek pastor of the church will be celebrant. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Friends will be received by the family from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in the Falconer Funeral Home. The Altar and Rosary Society of OLL will conduct a rosary service at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. A Christian Wake service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
