Elizabeth Ann Bissell

She was born June 11, 1914, in Cold Spring, N.Y., the daughter of the late Walter and Lily O’Neil Pennfield.

She married James Bissell in 1931, they owned the James Bissell sawmill in Panama, N.Y., they traveled extensively towing their Airstream trailer. She was a member of the Seventh day Adventist Church, in Jamestown, N.Y. She originated the first senior citizen group in her home in Panama, N.Y. She loved to knit and embroider, and was an avid reader and loved cooking and entertaining. She loved her friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Bissell in May of 2000; a daughter, Phyllis Knipple (Robert); and by her two brothers and four sisters, Howard Penfield (Lillian), Leonard Penfield (Beatrice), Mary Hayes (Joe), Patricia Martin (Jerry), Dorothy Penfield and Hazel Stevens (George).

She is survived by her daughter, Rosanne Babcock (James); four grandchildren, James F. Babcock (Paula), Bonnie Babcock Haas (George – dec), Robert L. Knipple (Heidi) and Betty Rae Carlow (Richard); eight great-grandchildren; 17 great -great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family; no visitation will be observed.

Arrangements are being handled by the Spitzer Funeral Home, Sherman, N.Y.
