Alma “Pat” Minerva Patterson Conover

Alma “Pat” Minerva Patterson Conover, 98, a former resident of 3496 Old Fluvanna Road, died July 4, 2017, at Heritage Village Rehab & Skilled Nursing Facility, Gerry, N.Y.

She was born March 19, 1919, in Olean, N.Y., the daughter of the late Floyd Patterson and Effie McFall Patterson. She graduated from Olean High School and from WCA Hospital School of Nursing in 1940. In 1944 she earned a certificate in public health nursing from Case Western Reserve in Cleveland. In 1963, she earned a certificate in school nurse teaching from New York State University of Fredonia. She was a registered nurse at WCA then worked as a school nurse for the Jamestown Public Schools until her retirement in 1978.

She was the widow of Kenneth E. Conover, whom she married on Nov. 3, 1945, and who died Sept. 29, 2003. She was a member of the Fluvanna Community Church and a member of Fluvanna Fire Department Auxiliary, WCA Hospital Nursing Alumni, New York State Retired Teachers Association, Celoron Senior Citizens and AARP Foundation.

Family and laughter was a big part of her life and heart. After retiremen, she enjoyed traveling with her husband, watching the Atlanta Braves and Buffalo Bills, bowling, golfing, roller skating, reading, baking cookies and pies. She especially treasured time with the grandchildren and visits with Duke (Mark’s dog).

Surviving are two sons: Kurt (Susan) Conover of Doraville, Ga., and Mark (Wendy) Conover of Bemus Point, N.Y.; a daughter, Carolyn Conover of Mableton, Ga.; nine grandchildren; MacAdam (Jennifer) of Roswell, Ga., Kalen, Cady and Molly Conover of Atlanta, Ga., Allecia Cavallaro (Justin) of Wheat Ridge, Colo., Kiah Conover of Washington D.C., Max (Sophie) Conover of Bath, Maine, Ryan (Donna) Barrick of Duncan, S.C., and Nathan Barrick, of Kings Mountain, N.C.; three stepgrandchildren: Journey (Jason), Casey and Rachel Gunderson; a great-granddaughter; Kristen Barrick a great-grandson, Oskar Toczydlowski; and several beloved nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Gary E. Conover, who died in 1987.

No visitation will be observed. A private burial will be in Fluvanna Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be made to the CBA Vision Rehabilitation Services, 510 W. 5th Street, Jamestown, NY 14701.
