Arthur Ferrara

Arthur Ferrara, age 83, of State Park Ave., Salamanca, N.Y., died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015, at WCA Hospital, Jamestown, N.Y., following a brief illness.

Born May 8, 1931, in Salamanca N.Y., he was the son of the late Michael and Concetta Rutolo Ferrara. He was married in the former St. Patrick’s Church on June 15, 1957, to the former Donna Hook, who predeceased him on Dec. 26, 1996.

He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Fer-rara had been employed by the City of Salamanca Board of Public Utilities for over 20 years, Allegany State Park for 15 years. He was also in law enforce-ment with the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s office and the Ellicottville Police Department for over 37 years.

He was a member of the Our Lady of Peace Parish, Holy Cross Athletic Club, and Past Commander of the Hughes-Skiba Post 535 American Legion. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved the woods.

Surviving are: a daughter, Jaymie (Ray) Sugg, South Valley, N.Y.; three sons, Joseph Ferrara, East Aurora, N.Y., John (Kathleen) Ferrara, Bemus Point, N.Y., Alan (Julie) Ferrara, Delhi, N.Y.; a daughter-in-law, Lorie Stoltz Ferrara, West Seneca, N.Y.; two grandsons, Joey and Jeffrey; four grand-daughters, Amber, Hannah, Alethea and Shawna; two great-grandchildren, Kameron and Sa’Mari; one sis-ter, Mary Sweeney, Olean, N.Y.; one brother, Alfonso Ferrara, Burlington, N.J.; and a dear friend of many years, June Chapman, Ellicottville, N.Y.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Funeral Home Inc. 25 River St., Salamanca, N.Y. A mass of Christian Burial will be held in Our Lady of Peace Parish Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Patrick Melfi officiating.

Full military honors will be conducted by members of the American Legion Hughes-Skins Post 535 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post 5296.

Burial will be in Green Cemetery, Great Valley, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Roswell Park Cancer

Institute or a charity of the donor’s preference.
