Highest Winds To Hit Region Through Early Afternoon

Some of the strongest wind gusts are expected to hit Chautauqua County from 11 a.m. to noon, the National Weather Service noted just after 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Already under a high wind warning until 5 p.m., the Weather Service said in a social media post that a “strong cold front is approaching. … Winds behind the front have already reached 55 mph at the Cleveland Airport.”

The damaging winds have the potential to blow down trees and power lines. Scattered power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles.

The Weather Service notes residents should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches. If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Use caution if you must drive.
