Counterfeit Money Investigation Leads To Meth Bust
Executing a search warrant for a counterfeit money operation has led police to the discovery of methamphetamine production.
On Tuesday around 2:30 p.m. police executed a search warrant at 519 Forest Ave., Jamestown, following a counterfeit money investigation. Police entered the house to discover the counterfeit operation and a one-pot methamphetamine production system as well.
Capt. Robert Samuelson, Jamestown Police Department division commander, said he didn’t know the name of those who will be charged for the counterfeit operation. He said the cleaning process was still ongoing for the methamphetamine, and additional charges will probably be filed in the near future for the methamphetamine operation.
“The initial charge will be possession of the counterfeit money,” he said. “In the days to come, charges for the methamphetamine as well.”
Samuelson said the investigation started after counterfeit money had been used at several locations. A subject and vehicle description from the counterfeit investigation led to a traffic stop for someone matching the description. From there, a search warrant was issued for the Forest Avenue residence where both a counterfeit money and a meth operation was taking place.
Samuelson said it is becoming more and more common to discover meth production in homes with this being the second or third operation discovered this year. He said, however, this was the first combination of meth production and counterfeit operation found at the same residence in the city.
“It is not unusual to start one investigation that leads to another,” he said. “They were making counterfeit money to support their drug habits.”
Samuelson said those responsible for the counterfeit money operation could face both state and federal charges depending on the dollar amount.
