A “strong person of interest” has been identified in the October fatal shooting of a 46-year-old city resident, Jamestown police confirmed Friday.

“We are continuing to work this with our District Attorney’s Office,” said Capt. Robert Samuelson of the Jamestown Police Department. “We do have a strong person of interest and are in the process of interviewing witnesses and other persons who are believed to also be indirectly involved.”

Samuelson said charges are pending following the Oct. 19 shooting that occurred around 8:40 p.m. at 61 Water St. Angel L. Pacheco, who was reportedly shot outside his residence, was taken by ambulance to UPMC Chautauqua where he later died of his injuries.

No motive for the shooting has been released; it was the first homicide in the city of Jamestown since February.

Samuelson said investigators are also looking for the weapon reported to be involved in the Water Street incident and which may have been “passed on to others not directly related to the shooting.”

Police are looking for anyone who may have information on the whereabouts of the weapon and who may have possessed it after the shooting. Information could lead to a cash reward through Crime Stoppers of Western New York.

At the time of the shooting, Jason Schmidt, Chautauqua County district attorney, said he had assigned three investigators to assist Jamestown police in the investigation.

“We continue our involvement with an eye towards arrest and prosecution,” Schmidt said in October. “People need to know that all of us in law enforcement are committed to turning around the spree of violent crimes plaguing our community. We are doing everything we can to solve this case and I look forward to prosecuting the individual responsible for this crime.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Samuelson at 716-483-7529 or the police department’s anonymous tip line at 716 483 8477.
