Area Welcomes First Babies Born In 2021

Madilyn Renee Giles was born on New Year’s Day at UPMC Chautauqua to Findley Lake resident Rosemarie Giles.

A Findley Lake woman welcomed the first baby born at UPMC Chautauqua in 2021, and a Cattaraugus County couple also greeted their child in the New Year.

Madilyn Renee Giles was born at 7:55 p.m. on New Year’s Day at the Jamestown hospital. The mother is Findley Lake resident Rosemarie Giles.

In nearby Randolph, Marvin Daniel Colley was born at 10:25 a.m. on New Year’s Day to Sheldyn and Bill Colley. The couple opted for a home birth.

It’s the third child for Sheldyn and Bill Colley; they have a son, 4-year-old Chase, and a daughter, 2-year-old Vayda.

“We were not planning on a New Year’s Day baby for sure,” Sheldyn Colley told The Post-Journal. “He was due the middle of December so we were hoping for a Christmas baby. We were blessed with one of the first babies of 2021.”

“We planned for a home birth but as the days ticked by we were losing hope that would happen, but Marvin came safely into the world Friday morning,” she continued. “We hope he will be the start of many blessings for the year to come after such a difficult past year.”
