City Man Charged With Attempted Robbery At An Ellicott Bank
A Jamestown man who attempted a rob an Ellicott bank before being escorted out by a customer was taken into custody Monday morning.
Officers with the Ellicott Police Department were called at about 11:50 a.m. to Community Bank, 1982 E. Main St. Ext. An investigation found that the man — later identified as 38-year-old Jason L. Maisonet — stated he was robbing the bank shortly after entering the local branch.
Maisonet also reportedly told employees several times to open the bank’s safe.
According to Ellicott police, a customer in the lobby advised the city man to leave but he refused. Maisonet told the customer he was a “bank robber and he wanted the safe open,” police said in a news release.
The customer then took control of Maisonet and escorted him out the front door. He was transported to UPMC Chautauqua for a mental health evaluation, Ellicott police said.
Maisonet was charged with third-degree attempted robbery.
