A city restaurant opened for a little more than three months has closed its doors.

Jimmy’s Family Restaurant announced on its Facebook page Sunday that it had ceased operations, effective immediately. The eatery, located at 10 S. Main St., opened in early August to replace the void left by Friendly’s, which shut its doors without warning in April.

“We are sorry to announce that Jimmy’s is closing effective immediately,” the restaurant said on its Facebook page. “We appreciate the patronage we have received from so many great customers. We are also so grateful to our staff who worked so hard. We gave it a shot.”

A sign taped to the front doors also announced that the restaurant had closed. No reason for the shuttering was announced by its operators.

Vince DeJoy III was co-partner in bringing the restaurant back to life after Friendly’s left. Many of Friendly’s former staff were brought back to work at Jimmy’s, named by DeJoy’s sister, who had suggested “Jimmytown” but was shortened to Jimmy’s Family Restaurant.

“It just seemed to work. It just seemed right,” DeJoy said in July.
