The armed robbery of a convenience store sparked a citywide search early Monday.

The robbery of Kwik Fill, 1617 W. Third St., was reported to the Jamestown Police Department around 1:40 a.m. According to police, the suspect — believed to be a black male, 6 feet, 2 inches tall, weighing about 275 pounds — entered the store armed with a knife.

The man reportedly threatened the clerk and left with an unknown amount of money. He was last seen wearing a bright yellow T-shirt with a black long-sleeve shirt underneath in addition to dark-colored jogging pants and white shoes.

The man also had on a black stocking covering his face.

An image taken from surveillance video and released to the media shows the suspect inside the West Third Street convenience store carrying what appears to be a bag.

The department is asking the public’s help in identifying the man.

“This male has a distinct physique being tall and heavyset as he appears,” said Capt. Robert Samuelson of the Jamestown Police Department. “We also believe he is a black male based on the info we were provided.”

The store has been the target of recent robberies. A man armed with a silver handgun took an undisclosed amount of money in March 2018, and in November of that year, a man took cash from the register after showing a knife to the a clerk.

A robbery also took place in October 2016 in which a man entered the location wearing a mask.

No injuries were reported in any of the incidents.

Anyone with information regarding Monday’s robbery is asked to contact JPD at 483-7537 or through the anonymous tip line at 483-TIPS (8477).
