Grand Jury Indicts Woman In Fatal Stabbing
DUNKIRK — Ashlyann M. Lopez-Lopez, 26, of Dunkirk pleaded innocent on Monday in Chautauqua County Court on a charge of second-degree manslaughter in the stabbing death of Jefrena Brown.
The incident took place on May 15 in the 100-block of Lincoln Avenue in Dunkirk and was a shock to the community as a whole. Brown, who was stabbed, died the following day at Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo after being airlifted the night before.
A Chautauqua County grand jury recently indicted Lopez-Lopez on the lesser charge; she had been jailed on a charge of first-degree manslaughter following an investigation by the Dunkirk Police Department.
Bail was also reduced, from $500,000 to $150,000.
When reached Monday, Chautauqua County District Attorney Patrick Swanson said “further proceedings in the case will take place in early September.”
