Police Confirm ID Of Body Found In Sherman

SHERMAN — A body recovered late last week from a pond in Sherman was identified as that of a missing Warren County, Pa., man, authorities in New York and Pennsylvania confirmed Tuesday.

Police had been waiting to positively identify 23-year-old Sven D. Blumquist, who went missing in the early morning hours of July 7 while attending the Great Blue Heron Music Festival. Dental records confirmed Blumquist, of Conewango Township in Warren County, was located late Thursday near the Heron grounds after a nearly week-long search.

The day Blumquist’s body was discovered, several K-9 units were brought to the site of the music festival in aid in the search.

Though police had to wait for positive identification, friends and family confirmed on social media that Blumquist had been found dead. A gathering honoring the Warren County native was held Saturday at the Heron grounds.

No cause of death has been announced. Capt. Eric Balon of the New York State Police, which is handling the investigation, said autopsy results could take several weeks to return from the Erie County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Conewango Township Police Department in Pennsylvania told the Times Observer newspaper in Warren that Blumquist’s body was found by police in a pond near the site of the music festival on Waits Corners Road in Sherman. Blumquist was reported missing after he was seen leaving his campsite but did not return.

Family of Blumquist said he was in search of music when he left most of his belongings and ventured into the nearby woods.

Julie Rockcastle, co-owner of the Heron Farm and Event Center, expressed condolences the day after the body was discovered. “All of us at the Blue Heron Music Festival are deeply saddened by the loss of Sven Blumquist,” Rockcastle said in a statement.

Blumquist was a 2013 graduate of Warren Area High School. He was a member of a Boy Scout troop in North Warren and former volunteer with Struthers Library Theatre. A Celebration of Blumquist’s life was held Tuesday at Warren State Hospital Interfaith Chapel.
