City Firefighters Battle Charles Street Blaze

Jamestown firefighters were called to a structure fire late Friday on Charles Street.

The cause of the fire, reported about 11:45 p.m., wasn’t immediately known. Crews arrived to find smoke coming from the roof before finding fire on the first floor. The blaze appeared out before it broke out on the second floor and attic area.

A dozen off-shift firefighters were called in to assist.

There were tenants living on the first- and second-floor. The local chapter of the American Red Cross said it was assisting five people displaced by the blaze.

No injuries were reported.
