Residence Destroyed, Red Cross Assisting After City Blaze
Ten residents of a Jamestown home are “lucky to be alive” following an overnight blaze Tuesday.
The Jamestown Fire Department responded to the reported structure fire at 14 Linwood Ave. just after 2 a.m., moments after the residents escaped without injury.
“A few of the residents were helped off the roof of the porch by a neighbor,” said Lt. Nate Alm of the Jamestown Fire Department. “From what I understand the family inside is lucky to be alive.”
According to fire scene investigators, the early morning fire originated on a porch that extends into the house and has been ruled accidental. No cause has been announced at this time. One dog and one cat did perish in the fire.
The American Red Cross said it was assisting those displaced by the blaze.
Firefighters were still on-scene Tuesday morning attempting to knock down some of the fire trapped inside of the home.
“It’s knocked down for the most part but there is still some fire trapped and we’re waiting to get to it safely,” Alm said.
The home was considered a total loss and was demolished Tuesday.
