The annual Christmas in Panama community event is happening this weekend in the village of Panama.

On Saturday Dec 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. members of the Panama community and surrounding areas are welcome to come down to the village for a day of local vendors and Christmas activities to begin the Christmas season. There are over 20 vendors with their own homemade items that will be there this year. Kids will be able to send their letters to Santa, and a hot chocolate bar with toppings will be available. Families will also have the chance at a photo opportunity with Santa who will be arriving at 11 a.m. All events take place in the Panama United Methodist Church’s Community Room and gallery area, and there will also be a light lunch fare put on by the Harmony Senior Citizens group.

According to Village Trustee Kim Davis, this is the first time in three years the village of Panama has been able to hold this event because of the Covid-19 pandemic, making it even more special this year for the village to be able to have this Christmas time event.

“People should come out and enjoy locally made items and a free event for the community and surrounding areas,” Davis said.

For small communities such as Panama and the areas surrounding it, Davis said she thought events such as Christmas in Panama are important to be able to have small community support around the holidays.

“It’s something fun that is face to face,” Davis said. “It gives local people a chance to get their names and endeavors out there so people don’t buy everything from Amazon for Christmas this year. It allows the small community the ability to come out and support each other.”

Especially during the holiday season, communities such as Panama are able to come together with the Christmas spirit and support each other. Davis welcomed everyone to come.

“Come out and enjoy the small vendor fair and hot chocolate table,” Davis said. “Support the community, and we hope to see you there.”
