A performance cancellation is scheduled as The Lucille Ball Little Theatre of Jamestown will begin renovating its stage.

LBLT Board President Holly Weston shared information on the future of the theatre via the theatre’s Facebook Page.

“After a recent building inspection, the board of directors has come to the extremely difficult decision to cancel our October production of ‘Young Frankenstein.’ This is a necessity at this time as the structure of our stage floor has been deemed unsafe for a stage production,” Weston said.

Weston noted the current stage floor was installed about 40 years ago, and had a life expectancy of about 20 years. She said the board recognizes that the safety of actors, dancers and the stage crew is very important, so it is an overdue improvement to the theatre’s creative space.

“We look forward to replacing this somewhat lumpy and uneven stage with a surface that is safe for actors and dancers, as well as allowing for set pieces to be moved more easily during scene changes,” Weston added.

According to lucilleballlittletheatre.org, Mel Brooks has adpated his film into a stage creation – “Young Frankenstein.” Grandson of the infamous Victor Frankenstein, Frederick Frankenstein (pronounced Fronk-en-steen) inherits his family’s estate in Transylvania. With the help of a hunchbacked sidekick, Igor (pronounced Eye-gore), and a lab assistant, Inga, Frederick finds himself in the mad scientist shoes of his ancestors. “It’s alive!” he exclaims as he brings to life a creature to rival his grandfather’s. Eventually, of course, the monster escapes and hilarity continuously abounds.

The production was to be performed Oct. 14, 15, 16, 21, 22 and 23.

“I personally cannot wait to teach dance and choreography on this new stage floor in the near future,” Weston noted.
