A portion of West Second Street in Jamestown will be closed until an inspection can be made of the Furniture Mart Building after several bricks fell to the ground late Tuesday. Crystal Surdyk, city director of development, said the bricks came from the top of the towering property, located at the corner of West Second and Washington streets. The area was closed to traffic, and several bricks could be seen on the ground Wednesday morning. Surdyk said a contractor from Buffalo will secure any remaining loose bricks and inspect the building to “ensure public safety.” The inspection was expected to take place today.
