City Crews Battle Afternoon Fire

A home on the south side of the city appears to have sustained significant damage after a fire broke out Wednesday afternoon. Jamestown firefighters were called around 4:45 p.m. to 39 Pennsylvania Ave. after someone reported hearing a large “boom” and then soon after spotted smoke. Crews arrived and reported finding smoke coming from the basement. Fire investigators were later summoned to the scene, along with the city Board of Public Utilities and the Department of Development. Alstar EMS and the Jamestown Police Department also responded. The cause of the fire wasn’t known by press time.
