Sherman Board Officially Accepts Superintendent Resignation

SHERMAN — The Sherman Central School Board officially accepted the resignation of superintendent Michael Ginestre at its regular meeting July 21.

Ginestre, who has served for five years as district superintendent and four years before that as school principal, has accepted a position as superintendent of Sweet Home Central School District near Amherst. His resignation is effective July 31.

In another matter, the board officially accepted the results of the May 18 budget vote/election of board members. A total of 136 votes were cast, with Emily Reynolds elected to a five-year term on the board. Reynolds will replace Jennifer Ferreira, who is resigning.

The board also approved staff members for the 2021 academic summer instruction program. They include Kristy Collver, Heather Croscut, Robin Martin, Cory Emory, Joel Fisher, Erika Stormer and Jessica Weise.

The board also approved several appointments and accepted resignations for the purpose of retirement. Elementary teacher Lena Young and Earth Science teacher Vincent Celestino are retiring, both effective June 30.

The following received four-year probationary appointments: Jacob Marino, elementary teacher; Aimie Boatwright, special education teacher; Emily Archer, elementary teacher; Mary Francis, elementary teacher; Kylee Jo Lindahl, elementary teacher; and Ella Wiggers, school social worker. Kris Soderberg received a 3-year probationary appointment as school psychologist. Also appointed was Laura Swanson as a full time tenured employee, as a registered occupational therapist. The board also approved the tenure of Lori Svenson as school counselor.

In other business, director of facilities Jared Oehlbeck reported that the capital outlay project has been delayed. The reasons include a foam shortage and lack of available contractors to resurface the gym floor.

Oehlbeck also reported that the annual fire inspection was completed on June 20. Several minor items, such as rescue windows blocked by classroom materials, will be remedied.

In another matter, the board approved the revised schedule for BOE meetings for the 2021-22 school year.
