Jamestown High School has won the Chautauqua County mock trial competition.

The team made its way through the mock trial schedule this year undefeated in Chautauqua County. The Jamestown City Council, Mayor Edward Sundquist and the Jamestown Bar Association recently honored the team.

The team added five new members to its six-player team this year. The Jamestown High School mock trial team is composed of seniors John Carlson and Tiara Skinner and juniors Aiden Moore, Cece Eklum, Ethan Haight and Camden Austin.

“These students were more than just really intelligent and hard-working people,” said James Krause, JHS mock trial team advisor. “Having talent is important, but having superior team-building skills makes everyone all that much better. These students had no problems using all their specific skills to the benefit of the team. They just made each other better by supporting each other. I am very proud of their accomplishments!”

Sundquist presented the team with a certificate at City Hall in front of the Jamestown City Council. The mayor, who is an alumnus of the JHS Mock Trial team, commented on how much the program had benefited him and stated that he hoped the current group gets as much out of the experience as he did. The team also visited the Robert H. Jackson Center to receive their championship trophy from the Jamestown Bar Association. Meeting with all the local lawyers and several judges, the students were able to see how a local professional organization conducts its meetings and also had an opportunity to meet many of the local leaders who make Jamestown run, and function, properly.

“Both of the presentations were a wonderful experience for the team and they were so honored that members of the community took the time to congratulate them on their accomplishment,” Krause said.
