Chase Involving Ambulance Ends Near Fredonia

For the second time this year, an ambulance was on the run in the village of Fredonia. The stolen vehicle was stopped after a short chase that led to the Plaza 59 parking lot off Route 60 just after 2 p.m. Tuesday. Officials said the ambulance was first spotted in Fredonia, where a village officer began to pursue the vehicle. The stolen ambulance did not stop and led police through village before heading to Route 60 and into the plaza parking lot. Despite being trapped in the parking lot, the driver refused to stop, according to police. He continued to drive around in circles in the parking lot until the officers who arrived to the scene were able to position cars around the vehicle to prevent the driver from moving further. The investigation into the theft is still ongoing, though it was believed the incident originated in Erie County. On Jan. 1, a Fredonia Fire Department ambulance was taken for a ride by a State University of New York at Fredonia student. The vehicle had been assisting in a rescue call that evening. The student was charged after the vehicle crashed into a sign at the Central Avenue entrance of the university.
