Frewsburg Soccer Club Kick Starts City Building Use
There is new life for a city building that had been used sparingly for almost two decades.
The former Allen Park Ice Rink is once again regularly being used by the Frewsburg Soccer Club, which started using the building again at the beginning of the year for soccer practice and tournaments. The group has liked the use of the indoor facility so much that it signed a four-year extension to continue using the building, which goes along with the four-year lease signed at the start of 2019.
The club is now under contract to use the building for the next seven years, with an additional four-year options also included.
Sam Teresi, Jamestown mayor, said club officials have done exactly what they said would be done at the start of the year, which included renovating the building and pay its utilities. Along with regular use of the building, Teresi said the soccer club also still allows the building to be available for the city’s Halloween Fun Fest and for the Warrin’ Wrecking Dolls roller derby team for matches and practice.
“They do a fantastic job,” Teresi said about the soccer club.
The mayor said the club has helped save the building, which hadn’t been used regularly since Northwest Arena opened. Teresi also said the soccer club has been good neighbors, with no complaints from residential properties near the park complaining about activities at the facility.
Scott Stone of Frewsburg Soccer Club said it has been great to have access for the in-door facility for the past 11 months.
“We love this building,” he said.
Stone said the Frewsburg Soccer Club has hosted tournaments with several regional cities attending during the past year. He said another event will be held this weekend with more teams from out of town using the facility.
“We’ve had a whole bunch of people in here and we will have a whole bunch in here again,” he said.
