Whalen, Haendiges Lead Supreme Court Races

Gerald Whalen and Deborah Haendiges have commanding leads in the race for state Supreme Court for the Eighth Judicial District, which includes Chautauqua County.

Four candidates were running for three seats on the bench. Whalen had received 76,727 votes as of 11:25 p.m. Tuesday while Haendiges had received 73,462 votes with about 21 percent of precincts reporting, according to the Associated Press. The race for the third position was closer, with Diane Devlin leading with 44,414 votes over Gerald Greenan III, who had received 41,248 votes.

Those percentages were similar to Chautauqua County’s, where Whalen received 24,035 votes and Haendiges received 23,091 votes. Greenan received 14,354 votes in Chautauqua County while Devlin received 12,134. Full results will be reported once they are received from the eight counties that comprise the Eighth Judicial District.
