Collins Wins Seat To School Board

CLYMER — Bethany White Collins will be sworn in today as a member of the Clymer Central School Board of Education, as decided by voters Monday.

Collins defeated her opponent Erik Johnson in a special election by a vote of 257 to 148. There was also one write-in vote.

Collins is a Clymer Central School graduate and a parent in the district.

“Both Bethany and Erik were outstanding candidates, both very involved,” said Ed Mulkearn, board president. “It would have been a pleasure to serve with either one, and I’m very happy that Bethany was elected.”

Collins was elected to a term of less than a year that concludes June 30, 2020.

The vacancy was left following the resignation of board member Amanda Stapels in September. The announcement came around the same time school Principal Corey Markham and Superintendent Ed Bailey also announced their resignations.

Collins will officially be sworn in during a special board meeting today at 4 p.m. The meeting will also see the announcement and appointment of Clymer’s next principal; Kirby Oldham has been serving as interim principal since Markham’s departure.

“I think we’re moving right along,” Mulkearn said, adding that the district’s next goal will be finding its next superintendent.
